about

Dedicated to the memory of the great Hollywood actress Carole Lombard and her mother Elizabeth, both of whom were tragically killed in a plane crash in January 1942. Carole was on tour promoting war bonds at the time. Elizabeth had wanted to travel home by train, but Carole was impatient to get home and favoured the plane. They tossed a coin to decide. Carole won.

lyrics

On a Friday in '42
Fifteen soldiers, your Mum and you
Lost on the toss of a coin

Mother wanted to take the train
You couldn't wait to get home again
Lost on the toss of a coin

Douglas Sleeper to Los Angeles
Beacons turned out for the Japanese

Douglas Sleeper refuelling late
Mountain pass in Nevada state
Lost on the toss of a coin

On a Friday in '42
Fifteen soldiers, your Mum and you
Lost on the toss of a coin

Nothing's sacred, nothing is for keeps
Douglas Sleeper to your final sleep
Sleep
Sleep
Sleep
Sleep
